“Man is a cursed creature who
Struts and frets his hour upon the stage;
And then is heard no more;
Life is a tale
Told by an idiot;
Full of sound and fury;
Signifying nothing.
- Shakespeare, Macbeth
Philosophers and authors have said their piece.
"To wonder too openly, or intensely, about the meaning of life sounds like a peculiar, ill-fated and unintentionally comedic pastime."
"The notion of meaning is often over-romanticized, to the disadvantage of those who consider it."
I declare myself as an “existential experimentalist”. What this means is that I want to dedicate my life to explore the theme of existence, such as “meaning”, “will”, “freedom”, “death”, “love”, etc through experimenting it with the only tool I have, my life. Therefore, I could be the biggest idiot to live my life dedicating to experimenting with the meaning of life. But again, who is to judge the difference between a wise man and an idiot when we all will die eventually, and nothing matters in the end?
Perhaps the whole notion of meaning is just a mental precept created by a malfunctioned brain that seeks for pleasure, consistency, stability, and control, "full of sound and fury", but I find this fascinating enough to dedicate my life to it. This book is a product of my choice living my own meaning, and hopefully in my own limited experiment, I can shed some lights to the readers to discover their own meaning, in their own term.
